AI skeptics — who are legion, and not necessarily part of the fringe tin foil hat crowd — are begging Silicon Valley to take a beat before unleashing AI to the world. Then, the big reveal: It’s all contained in Apple’s new iPad, its thinnest and most powerful ever, thanks to its brand new AI chip. Meanwhile, is anyone else getting inundated with Google’s Pixel ads, which show people giddily using the smartphone’s AI photo-editing software to deceive their online followers? Apple is expected to announce its own ChatGPT-like tools that could be a game changer for your internet searches. The Jeff Goldblums of the AI debate — who include some of the industry’s own pioneers — are not necessarily saying we have to smother AI and pretend it never existed.

CNN —Apple has apologized and admitted it “missed the mark” with its latest iPad Pro advertisement. The ad, posted on social media Tuesday by Apple CEO Tim Cook, was met with backlash from internet users who felt that the ad celebrated technology’s destruction of human creativity and art. As the metal slabs of the hydraulic press lift, Apple’s new iPad Pro is revealed. “Meet the new iPad Pro: the thinnest product we’ve ever created, the most advanced display we’ve ever produced, with the incredible power of the M4 chip. Actor Hugh Grant wrote on social media that Apple’s ad represented “the destruction of the human experience.”Apple no longer plans to run the ad on TV, according to AdAge.

An Apple ad for its new iPad Pro seems to fall into the latter category. Posted on social media Tuesday by Apple CEO Tim Cook, the ad starts off as a sort of time capsule for human creativity. As we hear the opening words of “All I Ever Need Is You,” a 1972 single by Sonny & Cher, the metal slab starts descending. Even emoji aren't safe from the hydraulic press in Apple's iPad Pro ad. Others say that even though they understand what the ad is trying to say, it doesn’t resonate with them.

That's about four times bigger than Berkshire's second-biggest public stock holding, Bank of America , and makes the company the No. The bet on Apple and CEO Tim Cook has paid off handsomely for Buffett, who said in 2022 that the cost of Berkshire's Apple stake was only $31 billion. "So I called up Warren Buffett. "It's kind of more like an annuity and I think that's what Warren Buffett really sees as well." "When I buy Apple, I know that Apple is going to repurchase a lot of shares," he said in 2018.

A Dave & Buster's location in the Gateway Center shopping complex in the Brooklyn borough of New York, US, on Saturday, March 30, 2024. Arcade chain Dave and Buster's plan to allow customer betting isn't winning over everyone. Software company Lucra Sports announced on Tuesday that it was working with the entertainment chain to allow customers to place wagers on their arcade games through the Dave & Buster's app. Illinois State Rep. Daniel Didech, a Democrat from Buffalo Grove, filed a bill on Thursday that's designed to prohibit family amusement establishments from facilitating wagering on amusement games. Dave & Buster’s did not respond to requests for comment, and it was not clear which specific games customers would be able to place bets on, or when the company would roll out the betting product, which will be available to people enrolled in the Dave & Buster’s loyalty program. On social media, people poked fun at the announcement, joking, for example, about whether customers might bet on such games as Skee-Ball. The age policies vary at each Dave & Buster’s location, but generally people under 18 years old can enter with a guardian. For example, professional golfers and tennis players pay an entry fee to compete and can win a cash prize. “If two people are competing against one another in Skee-Ball, presuming that there is nothing unusual done in the Skee-Ball game and physical skill is actually going to determine the winner, there is no problem,” Professor Edelman said.

When Pinduoduo, the Chinese discount shopping app, debuted nearly a decade ago, the tech giants Alibaba and JD.com dominated China’s e-commerce business. It was a combination of a game arcade, a shopping mall and a social network. Like TikTok, Temu is the foreign version of a highly successful Chinese company. As its popularity has grown in the United States, its business practices have also come under scrutiny. It has encountered criticism for its labor practices and failure to enforce intellectual property laws.

Virginia is not the only state grappling with skill games, but the efforts there reflect points in a larger debate nationwide as they have exploded in popularity. It is also backed by skill games producer Pace-O-Matic, which has given hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign donations to legislators in recent years. It would tax skill games revenue at 15% and would not explicitly limit the total number of machines that could exist. The skill games debate is a rare issue that doesn't split along partisan lines, and lawmakers have gone around and around on it for years. The General Assembly voted in 2020 to ban skill games, taking on the issue at the same time they were clearing the way for casinos for the first time.
